Brian Mitchell wins President's Day

There was a good turn-out of golfers for Ian Henry's President's Day at Galgorm Castle Golf Club.   There was also a very close finish with only one point separating five players – Brian Mitchell (21), Colin Black (15), Jordan Gaw, Jordan Kirk (18) and Kevin Devlin (26).   The OVERALL WINNER was Brian Mitchell and Jordan Gaw the

RUNNER UP.

 

Division 1

At halfway Jamie Surgeoner (1) was leading by one point from Billy Cull (7).   Conor Nicholl (6) was another point behind followed by Matthew Harkness (7) and Jordan Gaw (7) a further point down.   Patrick Dallat (-3) was another point in arrears.   Through the Devils Elbow the only change in the top five was that Gaw had improved to join Cull  a point behind the leader (Surgeoner).   Approaching the Lowlands Cull (pars at Beechers and the Grove) was the new leader by a point from |Surgeoner (par, bogey up the Grove) and Nicholl (par, birdie at the Grove).   Gaw (two bogeys), Harkness (bogey at Beechers, par) and Dallat (two pars) were a further one, two and three points respectively behind.   In a very exciting finish Gaw birdied the Lowlands  and parred Shirleys Cottage to WIN the OVERALL RUNNER-UP Prize.   Cull (two bogeys), Surgeoner (two pars), Nicholl (two pars) and Dallat (bogey at Lowlands and a birdie at Shirleys Cottage) finished together.   Cull with a better back nine WON the DIVISION; Surgeoner (better back nine) came second and Nicholl third.   Dallat (bogey, birdie at Shirleys Cottage) WON the Gross  with thirty eight Gross Points.   Harkness (two pars) finished one point outside the placings.

 

Division 2

Approaching The Fort Derek O'Kane (15) was being pushed hard for the lead by Colin Black (15) and Keith M:cCullough (16) a point behind.   James Kennedy O'Shea (14) was a further five points down.   At the Devils Elbow there was a three way tie with O'Kane, Black and McCullough vying for the lead three points ahead of O'Shea.   Through the Grove O'Kane, after bogeys at Devils Elbow, Beechers and the Grove, was leading by a point from Black (par at Devils Elbow, 'ding' at Beechers, bogey at the Grove).   McCullough (bogey at Devils Elbow, 'ding' at Beechers and a double bogey up the Grove) was another three points behind and O'Shea (bogeys at Devils Elbow and Beechers, 'ding' at the Grove) was a further two points down.   Black finished double bogey, par to WIN by one point from O'Kane (two double bogeys) in second place.   McCullough (bogey, par at Shirleys Cottage) came third another point behind.   O'Shea with a bogey, birdie finished outside the placings by a point.

 

Division 3

At The Fort Willian Rainey (18) was leading by two points but Jordan Kirk (10), Andrew Moore (16) and Brian Mitchell (21) were playing consistently and trying hard to overtake Rainey.    Philip Galloway ('dings' at the opening two holes,  and at Broadmeadows and The Treasury was a further five points behind.   At Beechers Kirk and Mitchell were the new joint leaders, three, four andseven points respectively ahead of Moore, Rainey ('ding' at The Maple) and Galloway.   Kirk double bogeyed at Beechers and bogeyed the Grove and Mitchell parred Beechers and 'dinged' at the Grove were still vying for the lead two points ahead of an improving Rainey (par over Beechers and a bogey at the Grove).   Moore (bogey at Beechers and a double bogey at the Grove) was another point behind.   Galloway (bogey at Beechers, double bogey up the Grove) was another four points back.   Mitchell finished with two bogeys to WIN OVERALL.   Kirk ('ding' at Lowlands and a par at Shirleys Cottage) was a point behind and WON Division 3 by two points over Moore (two pars) and Rainey (bogey, double bogey).   Second place went to Moore with a better back nine.   Galloway (two pars) came in two points outside the placings.

Division 4

Entering the Back 9 David Rankin (27) held  a slender one point advantage over Kevin Devlin (26) and Denis McCarroll (36).   Damien Agnew (23) was another point behind.   Through the Devils Elbow McCarroll was leading by a point from Rankin.   Devlin was another point behind and Agnew a further two points back.   Devlin, after a par at Beechers and a bogey up the Grove regained the lead by a point over Rankin (bogey at Beechers, double bogey at the Grove).   McCarroll (double bogey at Beechers, 'ding' at the Grove) was another point down and Agnew (bogey at Beechers, double bogey at the Grove) two further points back.   Devlin finished with two double bogeys and WON Division 4 by a point from Rankin (triple bogey down Lowlands, double bogey).   McCarroll (bogey, triple bogey) WON the Seniors and a further point behind in third place in the Division came Agnew (par, bogey at Shirleys Cottage).
