Robinson Trophy win for O'Kane

The Robinson Trophy sponsored by Robinson's NISA Extra was played as a Stableford competition at Galgorm Castle Golf Club.

Division 1

At the halfway mark six handicapper Craig Berry and Trevor Fleming, playing off eight, were vying for the lead two points ahead of Gary Henry (7). Through the Maple Henry had closed to within one point of the joint leaders. Over Beechers Berry and Fleming had increased their lead again to two points after pars at Devils Elbow to a bogey by Henry. Approaching Shirleys Cottage Berry with a birdie at the Grove and a 'ding' at Lowlands was leading by a point from Fleming (two bogeys). Henry was another point behind after a bogey up the Grove followed by a par down Lowlands. In a very close finish Berry bogeyed the final hole and was joined by Fleming with a bogey and Henry , at Shirleys Cottage, joined the leaders with a par. First place went to Gary Henry with a better back nine, second place to Berry with a better last six and Fleming in third place.

Jonathan Heaslip (Scr) won the Gross with 39 Gr. Pts.

Division 2 

Entering the Back 9 Adrian Atkinson (10) was leading by a point from Derek O'Kane (13). Mark Hamilton (12) was another two points behind with Philip Smyth (10) a further point down. O'Kane birdied The Fort and at theDevils Elbow was the new leader by one point from Atkinson ('ding' at Arthurs Seat). Smyth was another two points behind followed by Hamilton a further two points back. Through the Grove O'Kane after a bogey at the Devils Elbow, a par through Beechers and a bogey at the Grove had increased his lead to two points over Atkinson (two bogeys and a par) and Smyth (two pars and a bogey) was another point behind with Hamilton (par, double bogey at Beechers and a par at the Grove) two more points down. O'Kane finished with a par and a bogey to WIN OVERALL by one point. Atkinson (par at Lowlands and a bogey at Shirleys Cottage) was two points behind and won the Division by two points from Smyth (two bogeys) and Hamilton (double bogey and an excellent eagle three to finish). Second place went to Smyth with a better back nine and Hamilton third,

Division 3

At The Fort John Caulfield (17) had a two point advantage over Alan Proctor (16) and Connor White (16) ('ding' at the Trout Hole). Patrick Reid (17) ('ding' at Walkers Home) was another two points behind. Approaching the Devils Elbow Proctor had improved to lead by one point from Caulfield. Reid and White were another two points behind. After a par at Devils Elbow, bogey over Beechers and a par at the Grove Caulfield joined Proctor (two pars followed by a double bogey at the Grove) with two to play. Reid (par at the Devils Elbow, bogey at Beechers and a par up the Grove) was two points behind and White (bogey, par, bogey) was another point in arrears. Proctor returned with a bogey at Lowlands and a par at Shirleys Cottage to WIN the OVERALL RUNNER-UP placing. Caulfield finished with two bogeys to WIN DIVISION 3 by two points from Reid (par at Lowlands and a double bogey at ShirleysCottage) andWhite (bogey, par). Patrick Reid came second with a better back nine with White in third Place. 

 

Division 4

After the Front 9 Kevin Duffin (20) was leading but being hard pressed by William Rainey (22) and Ian Henry (20) a point behind. Conor Murray (30) was another four points behind. At the Devils Elbow Henry was the new leader by a point from Rainey and Duffin. Murray was another two points behind. Henry parred the Devils Elbow and bogeyed Beechers but failed to score at the Grove and was joined in the lead by Murray (bogey, double bogey, par) and Duffin (par, bogey, double bogey) in a three way tie a point ahead of Rainey (double bogey at Devils Elbow, bogey at Beechers and a bogey at the Grove). Rainey finished with two pars to win by one point from Henry (two bogeys) and Murray (triple bogey at Lowlands and a bogey at Shirleys Cottage). Conor Murray finished second with a better back nine. Ian Henry won the Seniors. Another point behind came Duffin (double bogey, bogey) in third place.
