RTU Sponsored Stableford Competition

There was a good turn out of golfers for the RTU sponsored Stableford Competition played at Galgorm Castle Golf Club and there were close finishes to all Divisions. Sam Moorman and Conor Connolly completed their rounds with equal points with Moorman taking the OVERALL WINNER placing with a better back nine over RUNNER UP Connolly.

Division 1

At halfway Conor icholl playing off a handicap of seven was leading by one point from Mathew Harkness (9) ('ding' at Walkers Home). Sam Moorman (9) and Daniel Reilly (2) were another two points behind. Through The Maple Moorman was leading by a point from Harkness. Nicholl and Reilly were another one and two points further behind respectively. M oorman bogeyed the Devils Elbow and parred Beechers and the Grove but was being hard mpressed a point behind by Nicholl (three pars) and Reilly (birdied Devils Elbow and Beechers and parred the Grove). Harkness (two pars and a double bogey at the Grove) was another point behind. Moorman completed his round with two pars to WIN OVERALL with a better back nine. Nicholl finished with two pars to WIN Division 1 by one point from Reilly (two par finish) and Harkness (bogey at Lowlands and a par at Shirleys Cottage). Second place went to Reilly with a better back nine and third place to Harkness.

Michael Reid (-3) won the Gross with 41 Gross Pts.

Division 2

Through the Front 9 Thomas Owens (12) and Dean McDermott (11) were two points ahead of David Halliday (11). Approaching the Devils Elbow Owens was one point ahead of McDermott and Halliday. With three pars McDermott was the new leader up the Grove but being closely followed a point behind by Owens (par at Devils Elbow followed by two bogeys) and Halliday (par, bogey through Beechers and another par at the Grove). McDermott finished with a bogey at Lowlands and a par at Shirleys Cottage and was joined by Owens who completed his round with two pars and Halliday who also finished with two pars. First place was taken by Halliday with a better back nine and second place by Owens with a better last two. McDermott (bogey at Lowlands and a par at Shirleys Cottage) came third. Andrew Collons (10) and Trevor Frletcher (14) finished a point behind the placings.

 

Division 3

Starting off on the Back 9 Robert Stacey (18) was leading but being hard pressed a point behind by David McIlroy (17), Conor Connolly (18), Willie Park (17) and Jordan Kirk (19) ('ding' at Lillyvale). Simon Crooks (17) ('ding' at Broadlands) was another point behind. At Beechers Connolly was the new leader by two points from Kirk ('ding' at The Fort), Crooks and McIlroy. Connolly, after a double bogey at Beechers and a bogey at the Grove, was still holding his two point advantage over Kirk (double bogey at Beechers and a bogey), Crooks (par, 'ding' at the Grove) and Stacey (two bogeys). Park (two double bogeys ) was a further two cpoints back. Connolly returned bogey at Lowlands and a par at Shirleys Cottage to finish OVERALL RUNNER UP. Two points behind came Kirk (par at Lowlands, bogey at Shirleys Cottage) and Stacey (par, bogey at Shirleys Cottage) and with a better back nine first place in Division 3 went to Kirk with Stacey in second place. McIlroy finished par, double bogey a point behind to Win the Seniors. Crooks (double bogey, bogey) and Park (par at Lowlands and a bogey at Shirleys Cottage) were a further point back and with a better back nine third place went to Crooks.

Division 4

At The Fort Martin Abernethy (30) ('ding' at Walkers Home) held a three point advantage over William McKigney(21) ('ding' at the Sanctuary). Tom Wiggins (27) was another two points behind followed by Robin Ramsey (20) ('ding' at The Niuc) a further two points down. At the fourteenth tee McKigney was the new leader by two points over Abernethy ('ding' at The Fort). Ramsey and Wiggins were a further one and two points respectively further behind. Going down Lowlands McKigney had doubled his lead to four points over Abernethy ('ding' at the Grove). Another point behind came Ramsey (two bogeys and a double bogey at the Grove) with Wiggins ('ding' at Devils Elbow followed by two bogeys).a further point in arrears. Over the closing two holes McKigney with a 'ding' down Lowlands and a par at Shirleys Cottage Won Division 4 by a point from Abernethy (triple bogey, birdie at Shirleys Cottage). Two points further back in third place came Ramsey with a par at Lowlands and a bogey at Shirleys Cottage. Tom Wiggins (bogey, double bogey) finished a point outside the placings.
