Bamber wins MET Healthcare Medal

Division 1

At halfway David Stirling Jnr. playing off a handicap of four was leading by one shot from Cameron Lappin (4). Mark Dunlop (6) was another shot behind, with eight handicapper Keith Clements and Paul Banks (7) a further one and three shots further behind. Through The Maple Stirling Jnr. was still one shot ahead of Lappin. Dunlop was another three shots down with Clements and Banks close up a further shot behind. Lappin, after a par, birdie, par was the new leader over Beechers by a shot from Stirling Jnr. Dunlop with three pars was another three shots down with Clements and Banks a further two shots back. Stirling Jnr. finished as OVERALL RUNNER-UP with a par down Lowlands and a birdie at Shirleys Cottage for a 68 Nett. A shot behind, Lappin with a double bogey and a birdie won DIVISION 1 with a 69 Nett. Clements (two pars), Banks (par, birdie) and Dunlop (two pars) finished with a 70 Nett. Second place went to Banks with a better back nine and third place to Clements with a better back nine.

Michael Dallat (-4) won the Gross with a 70 Gross and Neville Neill (12) won the Seniors with a 69 Nett.

 

Division 2

Trevor Fletcher (14), Billy Goodall (10) and Paul Conlon (12) were vying for the lead at the start of the Back 9, three shots ahead of Connor White (14) and Damien Casey. Alastair Murray (14) was close up another shot behind. Approaching the Devils Elbow Fletcher was leading by a shot from Conlon with White another shot behind. Goodall and Casey were a further shot back with Murray two shots further down. Fletcher with a bogey at the Devils Elbow followed by two pars had increased his lead to three shots up the Grove from Conlon with White, Goodall and an improving Murray (par, birdie, bogey) coming late another shot behind. Casey was another shot behind. Murray continued to improve and finished with two pars for a 69 Nett to Win from White (par, bogey) with a 70 Nett. Fletcher (with victory in sight finished in third place with a 71 Nett after a disastrous bogey down Lowlands followed by a bogey at Shirleys Cottage. Conlon, Goodall and Casey finished with a 73 Nett.

 

Division 3

Through the Front 9 John Fitzgerald (17) was two shots ahead of Don McKeown (16), Alistair McKervill (16) and Mark Connaughty (16) with Samuel Bamber (19) another four shots behind. After The Maple Fitzgerald was still leading but being hard pressed by McKervill a shot behind. Bamber and McKeown were another two shots off the pace with Connaughty a further shot down. At the Grove four golfers -[ Fitzgerald, M:cKervill, McKeown and Bamber - were vying for the lead two shots ahead of Connaughty. Bamber bogeyed the Lowlands and Shirleys Cottage to WIN OVERALL with a 66 Nett. There was a very close finish to the Division placings. Fitzgerald came in with a bogey at the Lowlands and a par at Shirleys Cottage, McKervill bogeyed the Lowlands and double bogeyed Shirleys Cottage and McKeown finished with a bogey and a double bogey for a three way tie on 70 Nett. First place went to McKeown with a better last six and second place to McKervill with a better back nine. Fitzgerald finished in third place. Connaughty (a par and double bogey) finished outside the placings with a 71 Nett.

 

Subsidiary Stableford

At halfway Jon-Paul Kearney (26) was being hard pressed by William McKigney (24) a point behind. Three points further back came Tom Wiggins (27) ('ding' at Broadmeadows) and Alan Knox (20). John Bell (30) after three 'dings' was another point back. Approaching the Devils Elbow Kearney was leading by two points from McKigney. Another two points behind came Wiggins. Knox and Bell ('ding' at Piat) were two and four points respectively further behind. Through the Grove Kearney ('ding' at Devils Elbow followed by a birdie and a par) had increased his lead to three points from McKigney (two pars and a triple bogey). Wiggins (bogey, par, triple bogey) was a further three points behind. Knox (double bogey, par, bogey) and Bell (double bogey, bogey, par) were a further one and two points respectively down. In a close finish Kearney ('ding' at Lowlands and bogey at Shirleys Cottage) WON by one point from McKigney (par, bogey). Three points further back in third place came Tom Wiggins (bogey, double bogey). Another three points in arrears came Bell (triple bogey, bogey) and Knox (double bogey, bogey).
