Graham Martin wins Diamond Jubilee Trophy

The Diamond Jubilee Trophy sponsored by Galgorm Spa and Golf Resort was played at Galgorm Castle Golf Club. There was a good turn-out of golfers and the greenkeepers had the course in excellent condition.

 

Division 1

Cameron Lappin playing off four was leading by two points at halfway from Keith Clements (8) with Paul Brammeld (5) ('ding' at Broadmeadows) another point behind. Through The Maple Clements had closed to within one point of Lappin and Brammeld was a further five points behind. Clements, after a par at the Devils Elbow followed by a birdie over Beechers and a bogey up the Grove, emerged as the new leader a point ahead of Lappin (two pars and a bogey). Brammell (three pars) was four more points down. Excitement through the Lowlands as Clements and Lappin failed to score and with a bogey at the last Clements held on to win by a point from Lappin with a par. Brammeld recorded a par at the Lowlands and a par at Shirleys Cottage to finish another point behind with a better back nine.

Sean McElroy (2) won the Gross with 37 Gr. Pts.

Division 2

Gary Wilkins (10) was being pushed hard through the Front 9 and was leading by one point from Stephen Mailey (12) ('ding' at the Sanctuary). Trevor Fleming (9) ('dings' at Lillyvale and Walkers Home) was another point behind. Approaching the Devils Elbow Mailey was the new leader by a point from Wilkins with Fleming another point behind. Mailey ('ding' at the Devils Elbow, followed by a birdie at Beechers and a par up the Grove was still one point ahead of Wilkins who was trying hard to regain his former position with three pars. Fleming with three pars was still another point behind. In another close finish Wilkins drew level with Mailey at Lowlands with a par to a bogey and at Shirleys Cottage Wilkins won the Division by a point with a par to a bogey by Mailey in second place. Fleming tried hard to catch up but came third with a bogey, par finish.

Malachy Bellew (10) won the Seniors with 36 Pts.

Division 3

Through the Front 9 M:ichael McAuley (16) was leading by a point from Graham Martin (17). Andrew Moore (13) was another two points behind followed by Brian Watt (17) ('dings' at The Niuc and the Sanctuary) was a further three points back. Through The Maple Martin was a clear leader by three points from McAuley ('ding' at The Maple) and Moore. Watt was a further five points in arrears. Martin with a bogey, par, bogey had increased his lead to four points at the Lowlands tee over Moore ('ding' at Devils Elbow, birdie over Beechers and a bogey at the Grove) and McAuley double bogey, birdie, bogey.. Watt was still behind but closing with two pars and a double bogey at the Grove. Martin finished with a bogey and double bogey to WIN OVERALL. Moore parred the Lowlands and finished with a 'ding' and McAuley ('ding' at the Lowlands and a par at Shirleys Cottage) came in together four points behind and with a better back nine first place in Division 3 went to Moore. McAuley came second and Watt (bogey, par) third, two points behind.

Division 4

After the Longlands Mervyn Lamont (27) was five points clear of Ian Henry (22) and Andrew Nicholl (23) ('dings' at the Sanctuary and Longlands. Ashley Doole (24) ('dings' at The Niuc, Walkers Home and Longlands) was another two points away. Through the Devils Elbow Henry was holding a slender one point advantage over Lamont and Nicholl with Doole a further four points back. Up the Grove Henry after a bogey at Beechers and another at the Grove was still in front by a point from Nicholl (double bogey, bogey). Lamont ('ding' at Beechers followed by a double bogey at the Grove) was another two points behind. Doole (two bogeys) was a further point down. Henry finished with a double bogey at Lowlands and a birdie at Shirleys Cottage to WIN OVERALL RUNNER-UP. Lamont (two bogeys) finished two points behind and won Division 4 by a point from Nicholl (double bogey, bogey). Doole (par, bogey) came third another point behind with a better last three.
