Elliott wins Meeting of the Rivers Trophy

The Meeting of the Rivers Trophy was played at Galgorm Castle Golf Club and sponsored by APEER Door Sets. 

 

Division 1

Patrick Dallat (-2) was leading by three points from Brendan Mulgrew (5) and Robbie Sutherland (6) at halfway. Approaching The Maple Sutherland had closed to within one point of Dallat with Mulgrew another point behind. Over Beechers Dallat ,with three pars, was still holding a one point advantage over Sutherland (pars at The Maple and Devils Elbow followed by a bogey at Beechers). Mulgrew (two pars and a bogey) was another point behind. With one to play Mulgrew after a birdie at the Grove and a par at Lowlands and Sutherland (two pars) joined Dallat (two pars). A close finish lay ahead. However Mulgrew birdied Shirleys Cottage to win the Divsion by one point from Sutherland (par) and Dallat (par) who finished together. Second place went to Robbie Sutherland with Dallat third.

Jamie Sutherland (-2) won the Gross with 34 Gross Pts (BB9)

Division 2

Entering the Back 9 David Halliday (9) was three points ahead of Peter Daly (10). Anderew Collins (10) ran into trouble with 'dings' at the Trout Hole and Broadmeadowsand was another three points behind. At The Maple Collins had improved and was only two points behind Halliday. Daly was a further point back. After recording three pars Halliday was leading approaching the Lowlands by four points from Collins (bogey at Devils Elbow, par through Beechers and a bogey up the Grove) and Daly (bogey at Devils Elbow followed by two pars). In a close finish Halliday bogeyed the Lowlands and double bogeyed Shirleys Cottage and was joined by Daly with a par and a birdie. First place went to Daly with a better back nine. Second place to Halliday and Collins birdie, bogey) third.

Division 3

Division 2 finished close but Division 3 had an even closer finish. Through the Front 9 Connor White (17) ('ding' at Longlands) and Sean Mullan (15) ('ding' at Spences) were vying for the lead one point ahead of William Glover (14). Coming to the Devils Elbow Mullan held a one point advantage over White with Glover another two points behind. A new leader emerged over Beechers when White after two pars was three points ahead of Mullan ('ding' at Devils Elbow and a bogey through Beechers) and Glover (two pars). In an exciting finish White ('ding' at the Grove followed by a bogey at Lowlands and a par at Shirleys Cottage) was joined by Mullan (bogey and two pars) and Glover (bogey and two pars). Glover won Division 3 with a better back nine. Second place went to White with a better last six and Mullan came third with a better back nine.

Division 4

At halfway Peter O'Loughlin (21) had a comfortable four point advantage over Leonard Campbell (22), Harkness McCaughan (25), William Crawford (32) and Gareth Elliott (27). Gary Coulter (28) was another point behind. Through The Maple O'Loughlin was still four points clear of Elliott. Campbell and Crawford ('ding' at The Maple) were another three points behind. A further point back came McCaughan and Coulter ('ding' at Arthurs Seat). O'Loughlin ran into trouble through Devils Elbow and Beechers and failed to score. Elliott parred the Devils Elbow but failed to score over Beechers) and Campbell (two pars) closed to within one point of the leader. Crawford (two bogeys) was another point behind. A further point down came Coulter (bogey, par) and McCaughan (par, bogey). O'Loughlin (bogeyed the Grove and parred the Lowlands) and Elliott (double bogey, par) were level with one hole to play. Crawford (double bogey, bogey) and Coulter (two bogeys) were two points behind. Campbell (double bogey, bogey) and McCaughan (two bogeys) were another point back. Elliott finished with a bogey to WIN OVERALL by two points from O'Loughlin (double bogey) the OVERALL RUNNER-UP. Two points further back Crawford (triple bogey), Coulter (triple bogey), Campbell (bogey) and McCaughan (double bogey) finished together. Crawford won the Seniors with a better back nine. Coulter Won the Division with a better back nine. Second place went to Campbell with a better last six and McCaughan came third with a better last six.
