Gray Wins Northstone Stableford

There was a good turn-out of golfers for the Stableford Competition sponsored by Northstone and played at Galgorm Castrle Golf Club. Playing conditions were ideal with bright sunshine throughout the day and the course in good condition.

Division 1

At halfway Cameron Lappin (4) ('ding' at The Treasury) and David Stirling Jnr. (4) were vying for the lead a point ahead of Steven Penney (1). James Taylor (8) was another two points behind. At The Maple Penney was the new leader but being hard pressed by Lappin and Stirling Jnr. a point behind. Taylor was another point behind. Up the Grove, Penney after a par, birdie, bogey, was joined in the lead by Taylor (two pars and a bogey). Lappin (three pars) and Stirling Jnr. (three pars) were a point behind. Taylor parred the Lowlands and finished with a birdie to take the OVERALL RUNNER-UP position. Lappin came in two points behind with a birdie, par finish to take Division 1, a point ahead of Penney (par, bogey) and Stirling Jnr. Second place went to Penney with a better back nine with Stirling Jnr. third.

Jordan Hood (-5) won the Gross with 43 gr/pts.

Division 2

Three players were level after the Front 9 – Bryan Maybin (10) ('ding at The Treasury), Graham Simms (13) ('ding' at The Treasury) and Willie Park (12). Malachy Bellew (10) was another two points behind.. Approaching the Devils Elbow Maybin and |Simms were leading by two points from Bellew and Park. Up the Grove Maybin with a par , bogey, par and Simms bogey, birdie, double bogey were leading by a point from Park (a par and two bogeys) with Bellew (two pars and a bogey) a further point behind. Maybin parred the Lowlands and bogeyed Shirleys Cottage to win by one point from Simms (two bogeys). Bellew finished with two bogeys another two points behind in third place and Park with a double bogey, bogey finish was a point outside the placings.

 

Division 3

Through the Front 9 Damien Agnew (18) held a two point advantage over Jacob Gray (19). Ken Gregg (20) and Derek O'Kane (15) ('dings' at the two opening holes) were another three points behind. Tony Dodds (20) ('dings at the opening hole and the Sanctuary) was a further point down with Damian Gillan (17) ('dings' at The Treasury and the Sanctuary) three further points back. At the Devils Elbow Gray had closed to within one point of Agnew. Gregg was another five points behind followed by O'Kane another point back. Gillan and Dodds ('dings' at Piat and Arthurs Seat) were a further two and five points respectively behind. Approaching Lowlands Gray (par and two bogeys) was the new leader by two points from Agnew ('ding' at the Devils Elbow) followed by a double bogey and a par. Four further points behind came Gregg (double bogey, par, bogey) and O'Kane (two bogeys and a par). Gillan (par, double bogey, par) was another two points behind and Dodds (two pars and a bogey) was two further points down. Gray finished 'ding', par to WIN OVERALL .A point behind came Agnew (two bogeys) to win Division 3. Another three points behind came O'Kane (par, bogey) to win the Seniors. Two further points down Gregg finished bogey, double bogey to take second place in the Division. Gillan (bogey, double bogey) and Dodds (bogey, par) came in together two more points back with third place going to Gillan with a better back nine.

 

Division 4

At Longlands Norman McKernan (29) was leading by two points from Trevor Todd (24). Another point behind came James Gillan (25) ('ding' at Trout Hole) and Harkness McCaughan (24). Ricky Faloon (37) ('dings' at the opening hole the Trout Hole and Longlands) and William Crawford (30) ('dings' at The Niuc, Walkers Home and Longlands) were a further two and three points respectively behind. Through The Maple a new leader emerged with Gillan two points clear of Todd. McCaughan was another point behind followed by McKernan ('ding at The Fort). Crawford and Faloon ('dings' at The Fort and Piat) were a further point down. Gillan with a run of two pars and a 'ding' at the Grove continued to lead by a point from new challenger McCaughan (par, double bogey, par). Two points further back came Todd (double bogey, bogey, double bogey) and McKernan (bogey, double bogey, bogey). Faloon (double bogey, bogey, double bogey) and Crawford (two bogeys and a triple bogey) were one and two points respectively further back. Gillan came in double bogey, bogey to win by three points from McCaughan (bogey, 'ding') in second place. In a very close finish for third place Todd (double bogey, bogey), McKernan (bogey, 'ding') Faloon (two double bogeys) and Crawford (bogey, double bogey) finished together and with a better back nine third place went to Crawford.
