MET Healthcare win for Weir

The September Monthly Medal was sponsored by MET Healthcare and played at Galgorm Castle Golf Club. 

Division 1

At half way John Rainey (8) and Matthew Reid (3) were leading by one shot from Tony Douglass (8) and Paul Houston (7). Joel McNeilly (3) was two more shots behind. Approaching the Devils Elbow Reid and Douglass were a shot ahead of Houston, Rainey and McNeilly. Up fhe Grove a new leader emerged. McNeilly with a par, birdie, par was leading by a shot from Reid (bogey and two pars). Douglass (par and two bogeys) and Houston (bogey and two pars) were another shot behind with Rainey (par, triple bogey, par) two further shots back. Douglass came in with two pars to WIN the OVERALL RUNNER-UP placing. Houston (par, bogey) and Rainey (two pars) finished two shots behind and with a better back nine Paul Houston won Division 1 with Rainey in second place. Another two shots behind Matthew Reid (two pars) finished in third place. McNeilly (two pars) was one shot behind the placings.

Jordan Hood (-6) wonj the Gross with 71 Gross and Wilson McVeigh (9) won the Seniors with 70 Nett.

Division 2

Through the Front 9 twelve handicapper Jeremy Weir held a one shot lead over Mark Hamilton (11). Tom McNeill (10) and David Halliday (10) were another two shots behind and William Rice (10) and Paul Steenson (12) were following closely a further shot down. After The Maple Weir had increased his lead to four shots over McNeill and Halliday. Hamilton and Rice were another shot behind followed by Steenson a further two shots back. Over Beechers after a bogey and a birdie Weir continued to lead by four shots from McNeill (bogey, birdie). Rice (bogey, birdie) and Halliday (par, double bogey) were another one and two shots respectively behind with Hamilton (two bogeys) and Steenson (bogey, birdie) one more shot away. Weir finished par, bogey, bogey to WIN OVERALL. McNeill (bogey and two pars) finished five shots behind but held on to win Division 2 by one shot from Hamilton (par, bogey, birdie) in second place. In a close encounter for third place Halliday (par, bogey, par), Rice (two bogeys and a par) and Steenson (two bogeys and a par) came in together another point behind with third place going to Rice with a better back nine.

Division 3

At the turn Alan Knox (22) held a narrow one shot lead over Jacob Gray (17). Alastair Murray (16) was another three shots behind followed by Gary Crabbe (13) a further three shots back. At the Devils Elbow Knox was joined by Gray in the lead two shots ahead of Crabbe with Murray another shot behind. Approaching the Lowlands Knox, after a par and two bogeys, had regained the lead by one shot from Gray (par, double bogey, bogey). Crabbe (par and two bogeys) was another shot behind and Murray (par, bogey, triple bogey) was a further three shots down. Knox finished with a bogey and a ten and won by three shots from Gray (double bogey, bogey). Three shots further back Murray (par, bogey) and Crabbe (par, bogey) finished together with third place going to Crabbe with a better back nine.

Subsidiary Stableford

Starting the back nine Fergus McKelvey (27) was leading by one, two and three points respectively from Garth Wilson (22), Darren McDermott (22) and Robert Artt (24). At the fourteenth tee Wilson was the new leader by a point from McKelvey and McDermott with Artt another three points behind. Down the Lowlands Wilson, after a bogey and two double bogeys, was holding on in the lead but being hard pressed by McDermott, McKelvey and Artt a point behind. In a very close finish McDermott and Artt parred the Lowlands and bogeyed the last to finish together and with a better back nine first place went to Artt. A point behind Wilson (double bogey, bogey) and McKelvey (two double bogeys) finished together with third place going to Wilson with a better back nine.
