John Fitzgerald wins Monthly Medal

The Monthly Medal and Subsidiary Stableford sponsored by Gracehill Cleaning Services and Sales was played at Galgorm Castle Golf Club. The weather favoured the good turn out of golfers and the green-keepers had the course in excellent condition.

Division 1

At the half way stage Paul Brammeld (6) was leading by two shots from Vincent Miskelly (2) and Brian McFall jnr. (4). David Bamford (9) was a further four shots behind. Through The Maple Miskelly was two shots ahead of McFall jnr. and Brammeld. Bamford was another two shots down. Miskelly after a par at the Devils Elbow, a birdie at Beechers and a bogey up the Grove was still two shots ahead of McFall jnr. (three pars). Brammeld had slipped back after a double bogey at Devils Elbow followed by two pars and was another two shots down. Bamford was a further two shots back (bogey, par, bogey). Bamford finished strongly with two pars for a Nett 68 and with a better back nine won the Overall Runner-Up Prize. Brammeld, birdie at the Lowlands and a par at Shirleys Cottage, came in with also with a Nett 68 to win Division 1. Miskelly (bogey, birdie) and McFall jnr. (bogey, birdie) finished together with a Nett 69 with Miskelly taking second place with a better back nine and McFall jnr. in third place with a better back nine.

The Gross was won by Jamie Sutherland (-3) with 70 Gross.

 

Division 2

After the Front 9 Jordan Dembinski (10) was one shot ahead of Pat Conlon (13) and George Small (10) with Malachy Bellew (10) another two shots behind. Approaching the Devils Elbow Dembinski was being hard pressed by Conlon, Small and Bellew one shot behind. Over Beechers Conlon with pars at Devils Elbow and Beechers joined Dembinski (par at Devils Elbow and bogey over Beechers) in the lead. Close up a shot behind came Bellew (bogey, par) and Small (par, bogey). In a close finish Dembinski parred the Grove and the Lowlands and completed his round with a double bogey at Shirleys Cottage for a Nett 68. Conlon also finished with a Nett 68 (two bogeys and a triple bogey). Dembinski won with a better last six. Bellew came back with two bogeys and a par for a Nett 69 (better back nine) and third place. Small (bogey, par, double bogey) finished with a Nett 70 (better last six) to win the Seniors.

 

Division 3

Setting off on the Back 9 Alastair Murray playing off sixteen was one shot ahead of Laurence Darragh (15) and John Fitzgerald (19). Mark Connaughty (17) was another two shots behind. Fitzgerald was the new leader at The Maple by two shots from Murray. Darragh and Connaughty were another three shots behind. Approaching the Lowlands Fitzgerald was proving difficult to dislodge and after a par, triple bogey, bogey was still holding his two shots advantage over Murray (bogey, triple bogey, par) who was joined by Darragh with a bogey at Devils Elbow followed by pars at Beechers and the Grove. Connaughty (two bogeys and a par) was another shot behind. At the final two holes Fitzgerald with a double bogey at Lowlands and a par at Shirleys Cottage finished with a Nett 67 to WIN OVERALL. In another close fiiish Murray (bogey, par) and Darragh (two pars) came in together with a Nett 71 and with a better back nine Division 3 was won by Darragh. Murray came second and Connaughty (par, double bogey) with a Nett 72 (better back nine) finished in third place.

Subsidiary Stableford

At halfway Tom Wiggins (24) ('ding' at Walkers Home) and Robert Artt (22) were vying for the lead two points clear of Victor Orr (22) ('dings' at Broadmeadows and the Sanctuary). Through The Maple Wiggins and Orr were leading by a point from Artt ('ding' at Arthurs Seat). Approaching the Lowlands Wiggins, after bogeys at Devils Elbow, Beechers and the Grove, was one point ahead of Orr (double bogey, par, bogey) with Artt (par, double bogey,bogey) another point behind. Tom Wiggins finished with two bogeys to Win by one point from Artt (bogey at Lowlands and a par at Shirleys Cottage). Orr (double bogey, bogey) (better last six) finished in third place another point behind.
