Victory for Darryl Robinson

In a very exciting and close finish to the Ace Fixings Stableford Competition played at Galgorm Castle Golf Club, five golfers – Alistair McKervill (14), Andrew Robinson (21), Darryl Robinson (13), Don McKeown (17) and Kevin Devlin (24) – returned with the same number of points.

Division 1

At halfway Mark Moore ('ding' at Spences) playing off five held a one pooint advantage over Steven Penney (1) and Nathan Scullion (6). Cole Henderson (Scr) (opened with a 'ding' at Lillyvale) was another point behind. At The Maple there was a three way tie between Penney, Scullion and Moore vying for the lead a point ahead of Henderson Penney (para at Devils Elbow, Beechers and the Grove) and Moore (pars at Devils Elbow and Beechers and a bogey up the Grove) were leading by a point over Henderson (birdie at Devils Elbow, par over Beechers, bogey at the Grove) and Scullion (par at Devils Elbow, 'ding' at Beechers and a par at the Grove. Penney finishe3d with two pars and was joined by Henderson (par followed by a birdie at Shirleys Cottage) and with a better back nine Henderson WON Division 1 with Penney in second place. A point behind Moore (par, bogey) and Scullion (two pars) returned the same score with third place going to Scullion with a better back nine.

Jamie Sutherland (-4) WON the Gross with 39 Gr.Pts.

 

Division 2

Through the Front 9 George Kernohan (12) held a one point advantage over Alistair McKervill (14). Darryl Robinson (13) and Kevin McCavera (12) ('ding' at the Niuc) were another two points behind. At the Devils Elbow Kernohan was leading by one, two and three points respectively from McKervill ('ding' at Piat), McCavera and Robinson ('dings' at Piat and Arthurs Seat). At the Grove Kernohan (after a par at Devils Elbow followed by two bogeys), McKervill (two pars and a bogey at the Grove) and an improved Robinson (bogey at Devils Elbow and birdies at Beechers and the Grove) were one point ahead of McCavera (par, bogey over Beechers and a par at the Grove) with two holes to play. In a close encounter McKervill (bogey at Lowlands, birdie at Shirleys Cottage) and Robinson (pars at Lowlands and Shirleys Cottage) finished together a point ahead of Kernohan (bogey, par). McCavera with a par, double bogey finish was another two points behind. Robinson with a better back nine WON OVERALL 1st and McKervill WON Division 2. Kernohan finished in second place and McCavera came third.

 

Division 3

At The Fort David McIlroy (16) was two points ahead of Malachy Bellew (17) and Don McKeown (17) ('dings' at Lillyvale, The Niuc and The Treasury). Andrew Moore (15) ('ding' at Longlands)was a further three points behind. McIlroy was holding firm through Tha Maple with a two point advantage over Bellew. McKeown ('ding' at The Fort) was another point behind an Moore a further four points down. Approaching Lowlands McIlroy after three bogeys had increased his lead to three points over Bellew (double bogey at Devils Elbow followed by bogeys at Beechers and the Grove) and McKewown (three bogeys). Moore (par at Devils Elbow, double bogey at Beechers and a birdie at the Grove) was another two points back. Another close finish with only two points separating the four players. Bellew (bogey at Lowlands and a par to finish) and McKeown (double bogey at Lowlands and a birdie at Shirleys Cottage) finished together and with a better back nine Belles WON the Seniors and McKeown WON Division 3. McIlroy hit bogey trouble with a 'ding' at Lowlands and a double bogey at Shirleys Cottage to finish in second place a point behind. Third place went to Moore (bogey, par at Shirleys Cottage) a further point down.

 

Division 4

At the start of the Back 9 Andrew Robinson (21) ('ding' at the Sanctuary) had a one point lead over Kevin Devlin (24) and Robert Barkley (23) ('dings' at Spences, Sanctuary and Longlands). David Rankin (25) ('dings' at The Niuc and The Treasury) was a further point behind. Approaching Beechers Devlin was leading by a point from Robinson with Rankin and Barkley ('ding' at The Fort) another point behind. Devlin with a par at Beechers and a bogey up the Grove increased his lead over Robinson (bogey at Beechers, par at the Grove) to two points. Barkley (bogeys at Beechers and the Grove) was another point behind. Rankin (par at Beechers and a triple bogey at the Grove) was a further point down. Devlin (bogey at Lowlands and a double bogey at Shirleys Cottage) and Robinson (bogey at Lowlands and a par at Shirleys Cottage) returned equal on points and with a better back nine Devlin WON the OVERALL RUNNER-UP placing and Andrew Robinson WON Division 4. Two points behind in second place came Robert Barkley (bogeys at Lowlands and Shirleys Cottage). Rankin (double bogey at Lowlands and a bogey at Shirleys Cottage) finishyed another point behind in third place.
